A 49-year-old man was discovered dead in the vicinity of the New Amsterdam Market on Saturday.
The deceased man has been identified as Tyrone April, with no fixed place of abode.
Sheriff News Network was informed that at approximately 7:00 hrs on May 31, April was spotted lying motionless in an alleyway between Payless Variety Store, China Supermarket, and the Gas Station, opposite the New Amsterdam Market at 14 Strand Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
According to the information received, April was clothed in camouflage brown pants and grey and white sneakers. He was discovered lying on his back with both hands crouched to his chest.
Upon examination, partially healed scars, suspected to be from recent injuries, were observed on both knees and elbows. No other marks of violence were found. It was reported that April was a heavy consumer of alcohol and was known to suffer from epilepsy.
April’s body is at Arokium Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
