With less than three months to go before Guyanese head to the polls, the European Union Elections Observation Mission (EUEOM) is now officially set to be deployed in Guyana.

On Wednesday, Ambassador Rene van Nes signed the Administrative Arrangement (AA) formalising the mission’s presence with Chairperson of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Justice (ret’d) Claudette Singh, and Ambassador Elisabeth Harper from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The AA outlines the legal and logistical framework governing the operations of the EUEOM during its stay in Guyana ahead of the General and Regional Elections set for September 1, 2025.

Meanwhile, GECOM has also announced that it is now accepting applications from local organisations and individuals interested in serving as election observers.

This initiative, in accordance with Section 4E of the Representation of the People Act (RoPA), aims to promote transparency, impartiality, and credibility in the electoral process.

Interested organisations must use the official Observer Application Form, available via the Resource Hub on www.gecom.org.gy, and submit completed forms to the Chief Election Officer at GECOM’s Fort Street office in Kingston, Georgetown, by Thursday, July 31 2025.

The Commission underscored the vital role local observers play in ensuring the electoral process meets democratic standards. Observers monitor polling day activities, report
