The region is celebrating a major leap forward in digital learning as President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali on Sunday officially launched the Guyana Digital School, a bold initiative designed to ensure every child across the Caribbean has access to high-quality education at their fingertips.

Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley described the launch as “an exciting new day” for regional education. She praised President Ali’s “bold and innovative vision” to provide children, whether in coastal towns or deep hinterland communities, with equal access to learning. “For after all, we are one Caribbean people,” Mottley said.

Grenada’s Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell also extended congratulations, calling it a “truly transformative initiative” for Guyana, CARICOM, and the students who will benefit. He highlighted the digital school’s capabilities, including AI support that helps students improve performance. “The government and people of Grenada will certainly be championing this initiative,” he affirmed.

President Ali explained that the Guyana Digital School is designed to eliminate barriers that have long separated high-performing classrooms from those with limited access to textbooks, teachers or technology. It will provide a full digital library with every textbook needed for CSEC and other major exams, and support learners in both traditional and non-traditional settings, including those outside the school system. He said the platform forms part of the foundation for Guyana’s future digital economy.

According to the Ministry of Education, the online school serves students from Grade 1 to Grade 11 across CARICOM, delivering the CXC curriculum through experienced teachers from the region and beyond. It combines interactive digital classrooms with equitable access to learning, regardless of geographical or socio-economic challenges.

Applications are now open for Form 4 (Grade 10) and Form 5 (Grade 11), with subjects aligned to CSEC examinations across three academic groups: Mathematics and Science, Business and Human Development Studies, and Arts and Humanities. Students can study Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, IT, English, Spanish, Social Studies, and more.

Beyond academics, the school features 14 key enhancements, including interactive learning tools, skill-development workshops, co-curricular activities, international cultural exchanges, and career guidance. These additions aim to build well-rounded students prepared for future opportunities.

Its stated mission is to deliver “a structured, engaging and interactive curriculum using state-of-the-art technology, skilled educators and a student-centric approach,” ensuring every learner has a chance to succeed. The Guyana Digital School is being celebrated as a powerful tool in bridging the gap between students everywhere, bringing the future of education to the present.

Boldly, the school declares, “Guyana Digital School – where education meets innovation for a brighter tomorrow.”
