Twenty-five-year-old Jilicia Leitch, who was doused with a corrosive substance on September 3, has reportedly lost her sight and remains hospitalised.

The revelation was made in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday when her alleged attacker, 32-year-old Keron Merin Daniels, appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty. Prosecutors told the court that Leitch is now visually impaired and will require surgery.

Daniels, who turned himself in and confessed to throwing the substance, was remanded to prison. He is accused of attacking Leitch and her colleague, 26-year-old Nirmala Sukraj, as they walked along Middle and East Streets, Georgetown. He was then granted $500,000 bail on Wednesday following his second court appearance.
