An additional 1.5 megawatts (MW) of power has been added to the electricity supply in Linden and Wismar, as government moves ahead with plans to boost generation capacity in the mining town.
The Ministry of Public Utilities and Aviation announced on Monday that the new capacity was installed at Bosai Minerals Group’s Linden powerhouse and became operational earlier in the day.
With the addition, Bosai’s supply to Linden and Wismar has increased from 14MW to 15.5MW.
Another 1.5MW is expected to be brought online, which would take the total capacity supplied by Bosai to the two communities to approximately 17MW. The two additions form part of government’s commitment to provide an additional 3MW of generation capacity to Linden.
Meanwhile, Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar said arrangements are being made to move three 1MW generating sets from a manganese company in Port Kaituma to Linden.
The Ministry said it will continue working with Bosai, the Hinterland Electrification Company Inc. (HECI) and other suppliers to improve the adequacy and reliability of electricity supplied to the community.
