Almost $600M invested to pave Lethem’s road network -President Ali
President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali has highlighted significant investments being made to improve the road network in Lethem, Region Nine, as the Government continues its push to upgrade infrastructure in hinterland communities.
According to the Head of State, major resources have already been committed to paving roads in the township. “In Lethem alone, in moving the road network to asphaltic concrete, we have invested almost $600 million or close to $600 million, and we have made a commitment that we are going to make the total investment to ensure that all the roads in Lethem are paved roads,” President Ali said.
On the ground, works are progressing steadily, with several roads already completed and others nearing completion. One worker explained that paving activities are being carried out across multiple areas. “We are currently completing the paving of Windmill Road and Bounty Avenue in central Lethem. We completed two other roads in Tabatinga this morning, and we are trying to complete all of these before the end of December. Nice now. Looking good,” the worker said.
Residents are expected to benefit significantly from the upgraded roadways, particularly in relation to reduced dust and improved transportation. Highlighting the advantages, the worker noted, “Well, the road will benefit the residents a lot when it comes to dust. The dust will be kept down. People will save a lot on car repairs, you know, because it has been paved, and easy transportation for everybody.”
The ongoing works form part of the Government’s wider plan to enhance living conditions and connectivity in Lethem and surrounding communities through long-term infrastructure development.
