The home of a Guyana Fire Service Emergency Medical Technician was destroyed by fire in Rosignol on Saturday afternoon.
Ceryl Agard, who resides at Lot 6 in Rosignol Village, West Bank Berbice, explained in an interview with reporters that he was at work at the New Amsterdam Fire Station when he received a phone call around 15:30 hours informing him about the fire.
Agard said he rushed to the scene upon receiving the devastating news, only to find his house engulfed in flames.
Firefighters from the Onverwagt Fire Station were contacted and responded to the emergency.
Agard, who is also a mechanic, lived in the two-bedroom wooden and concrete house with his wife and three children. Thankfully, his family was unhurt; his wife and children were awakened by smoke.
Agard said important documents and some of their belongings were destroyed in the blaze, including six motorcycles that he had been preparing to repair.
Agard expressed gratitude to the villagers who helped him by removing two cars from the premises.
