Police have launched an investigation after the lifeless body of a 66-year-old pensioner, George Julian Harry, was discovered in a trench along Church of God Road, Buxton, early Friday morning.
According to police, ranks responded around 07:45 hrs to a 911 call reporting the sighting of a motionless human body in a trench on the western side of the roadway. Upon arrival, officers found Harry, a known resident of Lot 103, Church of God Road, Buxton, floating face down in the water. He was clad in a black T-shirt and navy-blue long pants, barefoot, with a watch on his left wrist.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that Harry was a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Clinic and was known to suffer from seizures.
An emergency medical team from the Melanie Fire Station visited the scene and pronounced Harry dead at the scene. No marks of violence were observed on the most exposed parts of his body, police reported.
The body was positively identified at the scene by his cousin, 54-year-old vendor Arita Phillander of Annandale Railway Embankment.
Investigators canvassed the area and noted the presence of surveillance cameras on a building opposite the scene. Several residents have since been interviewed, and statements are being obtained as part of the ongoing probe.
Harry’s body was subsequently transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it will be stored pending a post-mortem examination.
