BREAKING NEWS | CCJ Sets July 29 Ruling on Mohameds’ Extradition

The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) will deliver its ruling on July 29 in the judicial review challenge brought by United States-sanctioned businessmen Azruddin and Nazar Mohamed over extradition proceedings initiated by Guyana.

The decision concerns several challenges brought by the father and son, including to the validity of the Authority to Proceed (ATP) issued by Home Affairs Minister Oneidge Walrond, which authorised the commencement of extradition proceedings against them.

The ruling follows a full hearing on April 21, during which the regional court heard arguments from various parties before reserving its decision.

During the hearing, Attorney General Anil Nandlall, SC, defended legal advice he gave Home Affairs Minister Oneidge Walrond, rejecting claims that his public comments demonstrated bias or tainted the Authority to Proceed.

The CCJ’s stay of the committal proceedings before Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman remains in force pending its decision
