Businessman Remanded on Human Trafficking Charge
Alvin Parag, a 49-year-old businessman of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, and Alberttown, Georgetown, was on Tuesday (September 23, 2025) charged with Trafficking in Persons.
Parag was arrested on September 19 and is accused of trafficking a 31-year-old Cuban woman between March 29 and June 7, 2025, at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
He appeared before Senior Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor strongly opposed bail, which was denied, and Parag was remanded to prison.
The case was adjourned to October 6, 2025, for statements and disclosure.
Police have reaffirmed their commitment to working with stakeholders to combat all forms of human trafficking.
