Carlos Conyern, a 24-year-old chef, was shot during a home invasion early Tuesday morning on Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident occurred around 03:30 hrs when Conyern was reportedly confronted in his bed by two masked intruders, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
The men, who entered the house through a window on the southern side, demanded money, prompting Conyern to shout for help.
In response, the armed assailant discharged a round, striking Conyern in the lower abdomen. The intruders then grabbed two Samsung cellphones, valued at $85,000 and $35,000, and escaped through the same window in an unknown direction.
Conyern was quickly transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he received medical treatment. He is currently in stable condition.
Crime scene investigators recovered a .32 spent shell at the scene. Police say investigations are ongoing as they work to apprehend the perpetrators.
