The Guyana Hockey Board Kellogg’s Under-14 Indoor League got off to an exciting start last Friday at the St. Stanislaus College auditorium, as GCC Pitbulls, Saints Hockey Club (SHC) Slayers Girls, SHC Scorpions, and Old Fort Hockey Boys secured opening wins.
The tournament features ten boys’ teams and six girls’ teams from both clubs and schools. Its objective is to develop young athletes through a league format, while simultaneously creating opportunities for young umpires and match officials to gain experience.
The league will run for six weeks, with matches played on Friday afternoons from 4:00–7:00 p.m. at the auditoriums of St. Stanislaus College, Marian Academy, and, tentatively, Richard Ishmael and North Ruimveldt Multilateral schools.
Friday’s action saw experience prevailing, with GCC Pitbulls mauling Hikers Hatches 10–0 in the boys’ category. In the girls’ division, Saints Hockey Club (SHC) Slayers cruised to a 3–0 win over their first-form counterparts, SHC Sensations.
In another all-SHC clash, SHC Scorpions edged past SHC Snipers with a penalty stroke converted by Jayden Ghansham. Despite playing one player short, Old Fort Hockey Club (OFHC) High Fliers defeated North Ruimveldt Multilateral 3–1, thanks to a Jasmine De Santos penalty stroke and a Royann Sancho double. Meanwhile, Omalo Layne delivered a scintillating performance, netting a hat-trick for OFHC Warriors in their 3–1 victory over SHC Sigma.
Action continues this Friday at Marian Academy from 4:30–7:00 p.m., with thirteen matches scheduled.
