An agrochemical business located at Number 64 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was robbed of cash and millions of dollars worth of items on Sunday.

The owner of Vickash Enterprise, Bharrat Sukhu, told reporters that the discovery was made by one of his staff who reported for duty on the morning of Sunday.

After receiving the devastating news, Sukhu immediately alerted the police and rushed to the scene.

Sukhu stated that when he arrived at the scene, he examined the store and discovered two broken doors. One of the doors at the side of the building was where the bandits used to gain entry into the premises. That door is linked to Sukhu’s bond.

Another door that gives access to the bond and the store was broken. He said the thieves used “heavy machines” to cut the padlocks on the doors.

According to Sukhu, upon further examination of the store, he noticed that one outboard engine, 20 motor blowers, and cash had been stolen.

“Each motor blower costs $130,000, so the 20 costs $2.6M.The outboard engine cost $500,000, and cash, close to $500,000 to $600,000,” he related.

He explained that there are traces of where the robbers escaped, adding that they cut open a neighbour’s fence and went through a back street. Along the street, Sukhu said he found some of the motor blower boxes, which he collected.

“This is not one person do the break-in; to my knowledge, this got to be three to four persons do this work,” he disclosed.

According to Sukhu, his business encountered had break-ins several times prior. He stated that one of the alleged perpetrators is well-known in the community.
