Milaysi Rodrigues, a 38-year-old Cuban woman, remains in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) following the violent chopping attack on May 23 that claimed the life of her 21-year-old daughter.
This publication reported that the incident occurred at Lot 56 Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown. The landlord for the Pike Street property relayed that Rodrigues has shown no signs of improvement. “She is very serious,” he said.
The incident, which occurred at about 07:00 hrs on May 23, left 21-year-old Davely Morales dead. It was reported that Morales lived at the location with her mother, nine-year-old sister, and stepfather, Wispriey Alfonso, 40.

The family had arrived in Guyana about a month ago and had been renting the Pike Street apartment together.
A tenant in the building had told investigators that he heard a woman screaming and went to investigate. Upon investigating, he observed the door to apartment one wide open and Alfonso standing over Rodrigues, attacking her with a chopper while she lay on her back in the living room.
Nearby, Morales was seen lying in a pool of blood with chop wounds to her body. The tenant reported that Morales managed to get up and run from the apartment but collapsed shortly after in the walkway.
Alfonso fled the scene immediately after the attack. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) from the Central Fire Station responded, but Morales was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Rodrigues was rushed to the hospital with multiple chop wounds. Police reported that Morales sustained chop wounds to her hands, the back of her head, and her jaw. Her body was later transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is expected.
Alfonso later turned himself in at the Kitty Police Station, still armed with the chopper, which had blood stains. He was immediately taken into custody.
