Daniel Seeram found guilty of assaulting ex-wife, remanded ahead of sentencing

National Border Patrol Director and former Region Four Chairman Daniel Seeram was on Friday found guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm to his ex-wife and remanded to prison pending sentencing.

Magistrate Abigail Gibbs delivered the verdict at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court. Seeram is scheduled to be sentenced on November 2.

The case arose from a complaint concerning an incident at the couple’s Cummings Lodge home in September 2023.

Seeram initially appeared before Magistrate Alisha George on October 13, 2023, when he pleaded not guilty and was released on $50,000 bail. Attorney Bernard DaSilva represented him at that appearance.

During the initial investigation, police said both Seeram and his then-wife had made allegations of assault against each other. The matter was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice, following which police were advised to charge Seeram with assault causing actual bodily harm.

At the time, Seeram was serving as chairman of Region Four, Demerara-Mahaica, and was an executive member of the People’s National Congress Reform.

A former Guyana Defence Force captain, Seeram was appointed National Coordinator of Guyana’s newly established Border Patrol Units earlier this year.

He will remain in custody ahead of the sentencing hearing.
