Duo plead guilty to 2021 murder of taxi driver Kenrick Trim

Two men have pleaded guilty in the High Court in Demerara to the June 2021 murder of taxi driver Kenrick Trim, a 53-year-old resident of Belfield Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Seyon James, also known as “Lil Alfey,” and Kenty Bacchus, called “Trini,” appeared before Chief Justice (ag) Navindra Singh, where they admitted to killing Trim during the course of a robbery.

The prosecution is being represented by attorney Geneva Wills, assisted by attorneys Christopher Belfield and Simran Gajraj. Bacchus is represented by Attorney-at-Law Audreanna Stephens. Attorney Glendon Greenidge is representing James.

According to the statement of agreed facts presented in court, on the morning of June 30, 2021, James and Bacchus joined Trim’s taxi, registration number HC5311, outside Beacon Café on Carmichael Street, Georgetown.

While in the vehicle, the two men allegedly seized control of the car and subdued Trim by choking him. During the attack, Bacchus witnessed James stabbing the taxi driver multiple times.

After killing Trim, the accused abandoned his body in bushes located at the back of Pradoville, Ogle, ECD.

Acting on intelligence, police later searched a Georgetown premises, where they reportedly discovered Trim’s cellphone in Bacchus’ possession.

Trim died from haemorrhage and shock caused by multiple stab wounds, further aggravated by compression injuries to his neck.

Bacchus later gave an interview under video/audio recording admitting to his part in the incident, and further identified himself and his accomplice on CСTV footage presented to him by the Police.

The matter is now moving toward sentencing, with further proceedings scheduled for later this month.
