The home of a teacher was broken into in East Canje, Berbice, on Tuesday.

Shaleelza Ramcharan, 35, lives with her husband and two children at Lot 80 East Canefield Settlement, East Canje, Berbice.

Shaleelza told reporters that at approximately 7:30 a.m., her husband and children left for work and school. She said when she returned home around 2:46 p.m., she noticed that the door on the lower floor was open.

Shocked by this discovery, Shaleelza immediately contacted her husband to inform him of the situation.

“When I opened the door, I saw that the house had been ransacked; everything was in disarray,” she said.

Shaleelza, who operates a small business and is an MMG agent, reported that her business funds, along with other cash totalling 500,000 Guyana dollars, were stolen. She also stated that her family’s jewellery, worth 400,000 Guyana dollars, was missing.

Additionally, the robbers took her husband’s sneakers, perfumes, and expensive alcoholic beverages.

Shaleelza expressed: “I am shaken, hurt, and sad… It’s a lot of emotions. I work so hard for my things, and for people to come and take them away is really difficult.”

The incident has been reported to the Reliance Police Station.

Shaleelza hopes for a significant breakthrough in the case so that the robbers will face the consequences of their actions.
