Essequibo Fisherman Charged with Child Rape, Granted $500,000 Bail
A 20-year-old fisherman from Westbury, Essequibo, has been charged with the rape of a child under the age of 16, allegedly committed against a Guyanese girl of mixed ancestry between March 1 and May 21, 2024.
The accused, Norvin Oneil, appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on September 23, 2025. The charge was read to him, and he was not required to enter a plea.
Despite objections from the prosecutor, Magistrate Mohabir granted bail in the sum of $500,000, with strict conditions. Oneil is required to report to the Charity Police Station every other Friday and have no contact with the victim while the matter is pending.
The case has been adjourned to October 13, 2025.
