The family of 16-year-old Kimberley Jones of Bel Air, West Coast Berbice, is seeking justice after she was struck by a car.
According to police, on the evening of July 8, 2025, Kimberley was crossing the Bel Air Public Road when motorcar PAF 2130, driven by 32-year-old Paul Mahabal, hit her. The impact threw her approximately 74 feet.
In an interview with reporters, Kimberley’s sister, Keiola Doris, said Kimberley was returning home from her job at Big B’s restaurant when the accident occurred.
At Fort Wellington Hospital, doctors informed Keiola that Kimberley had lost a significant amount of blood and did not survive.
Keiola noted that Kimberley suffered a broken neck and head injuries.
She also believes the driver was speeding at the time of the crash.
“That car hit her hard. My sister didn’t deserve this; she was so young,” she said.
Kimberley, a former student of Fort Wellington Secondary School, had completed nine subjects in this year’s CXC exams and was eagerly awaiting her results.
Keiola urged police to conduct a thorough investigation, stating, “I want justice for my sister. She was so young and just wanted to earn her own money.”
The driver, who fled the scene, has been arrested and is currently in custody, assisting with the investigation.
