Narayan ‘Leon’ Sikandar, a father of two young children, has died following a three-vehicle collision on the Rupert Craig Highway on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred around 9:00 hours near the UG Access Road on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD).

Sikandar was driving motor car PMM 3778 westbound along the southern carriageway when another vehicle, motor car PAK 9877, lost control while travelling eastbound at high speed.

The out-of-control vehicle swerved across the concrete median, colliding with Sikandar’s car before pushing it into a hire car, bearing registration number HD 3223, which was also travelling westbound.

The collision resulted in extensive damage to all three vehicles and injuries to the drivers and occupants involved. Sikandar was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. He sustained a fractured right arm among other injuries.

Police reports confirmed that the other drivers, Neil Lewis, 63, of Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice, who was driving the hire car with two male passengers, and Kamel Daniels, driver of the speeding vehicle, were treated for chest pains and facial lacerations. Their conditions are listed as stable.

Sikandar’s sister, Sonia Sankar, expressed her heartbreak in a Facebook post, saying:

“And just like that, my brother is gone. He was just going to work yesterday morning, he was healthy and fine. Then out of nowhere someone who clearly doesn’t care about his life ended my brother’s. His son’s only 4 and 1 year old. What do we tell them their dad is not coming back?”
