Female ranks lead as GPF honours top performers in record-breaking year
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has recognised what it considers one of its strongest years yet, celebrating major progress in crime-fighting and the dedication of officers across the country. More than $226 million in cash and prizes were handed out during the annual Christmas Awards Ceremony on Friday at Eve Leary.
Women dominated the top awards, with Deputy Superintendent Fiona Fredericks of the Narcotics Branch named Best Cop for 2025. Fredericks, who joined the Force in 1996, has built a career marked by professionalism and steady advancement. She has served under several Commissioners and worked in a range of key units, from Force Control to the Firearm Department.
Now leading the Narcotics Branch, she has guided operations that dismantled drug networks and destroyed illegal farms, contributing to safer communities nationwide. Fredericks is only the third woman in GPF history to receive the Best Cop title.
She also previously represented Guyana in national volleyball, further proving her discipline and teamwork both on and off duty. Born in Hosororo, Region One, she credited her success to the resilience learned in her community and the support of her team.
Assistant Superintendent Henry of CID secured the runner-up spot.
Home Affairs Minister Oneidge Walrond praised all awardees for maintaining a high standard of service. She encouraged ranks to stay committed as Guyana rapidly develops, noting that policing must remain professional, adaptable and community-focused through the changes ahead.
The ceremony highlighted not only individual achievements but the Force’s wider improvements, showcasing a year defined by stronger enforcement and rising performance across the ranks.
