A former police rank succumbed to injuries sustained in a vehicle accident at Number 74 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, on Sunday at around 05:00h.
The deceased has been identified as Seon Hunte, 34, of 43 Albert Street, Number 79 Village, Corentyne Berbice. He was attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Region 6.
Reports indicate that Hunte had left home and was heading to Georgetown on the said day when he reportedly lost control of his car along Number 74 Village Public Road and collided with a utility pole before the vehicle came to a halt.
In an interview with reporters, his reputed wife, Tishana Harrilall, disclosed that on Sunday morning, she received a phone call stating that Hunte had been seen at the Number 75 Regional Hospital. She said she immediately rushed over after the call.
“When I reach, I go in and see him lying down, breathing hard,” she stated.
According to Harrilall, around 17:00h, she was told that Hunte would be placed on life support in the emergency room. She said that thereafter, she was encouraged to go home and return the following day.
The grieving woman added that around 19:00h, while she was at home sleeping, she received a phone call to go to the hospital. She said when she arrived, she was informed that her husband passed away.
Hunte suffered a fractured skull and broken feet. He also sustained injuries to his throat and spine.
Hunte was described as a loving and jovial individual. He leaves to mourn his wife, two children, and other relatives and friends.
