One of Guyana’s upcoming luxury Hotels, the Four Points by Sheraton, is embracing the history and creativity of Guyana’s first people.

The hotel, set to open in August, has been supporting 10 Indigenous women from Santa Aratak by purchasing their crafts to incorporate into its decor.

These crafts, ranging from baskets to wall decor, will be showcased to thousands of visitors at the hotel upon its opening.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali conducted an on-site inspection of the modern 172-room building being constructed in Houston on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) on Thursday.

While interacting with the workers on site, President Ali was informed of the integration of these craft pieces into the hotel’s designs.

While examining one of the pieces of craft, Ali said, “This is fantastic […], and they [would] also have an entire section of the building dedicated to Indigenous work, Guyana’s arts and culture, and of course everything Guyana.”

When completed, the US$33.3 million hotel will feature a restaurant, bars, and an outdoor pool, as well as 16,000 square feet of meeting space and a 25,000-square-foot retail area.

Highlighting the administration’s broader vision, President Ali stated that in the next year, the government will establish a drainage system spanning from Houston to Georgetown.

He also noted that all the roads and pavements along this stretch will be enhanced, while a concrete drainage system will be established to improve aesthetics. This project will also include the construction of a nature walk covering the same catchment area.

This, the Head of State explained, is part of the vision that the government aims to bring to life in the City.

“We will be creating little hubs for all the local shops that can be in areas that are touristic,” the president said, adding that, “as we build a new city [in] the next five years, the city is going to be a real botanical city with the drainage systems,” he said.

A massive housing scheme is also expected to be created along this stretch.
