The Guyana Geology and Mines Commission has shut down an unlicensed gold trading operation at Tamakay Landing in the Mazaruni Mining District.
The move was carried out on Sunday after GGMC officers discovered a shop allegedly trading gold without the required licences and approvals.
Authorities seized a quantity of gold, along with equipment and cash, while two persons were detained by police.
Enforcement and monitoring exercises are expected to continue across mining districts countrywide.
The natural resources ministry ia seminding miners, gold traders and other stakeholders that their operations must comply with the laws and licensing requirements governing Guyana’s mining sector.
