Gov’t committed to expanding home ownership – President Ali
President Irfaan Ali announced an ambitious plan to enhance home ownership and allocate house lots during an outreach in Corriverton, Berbice on Friday.
He stated that the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) will significantly invest in new house lots in Region Six.
He said the goal for the next five years is to meet the demand for house lots and make sure every applicant receives a lot
President Ali revealed that many housing schemes face issues with privately owned or disputed land. To address this, a special mechanism will be established with the Attorney General’s Chamber and independent lawyers to expedite the land regularization process, paving the way for titling and transfers.
He also mentioned that the government is collaborating with the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA) to open new land for farming and commercial use. This includes working with the Lands and Survey, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Public Works to develop access roads, allowing tens of thousands of acres to be made available to meet the growing housing demand in the region.
Additionally, he said infrastructure will be created in the area, starting with 10-acre plots for new applicants.
