The government is accelerating its drive to modernise the public sector by pairing digital transformation with a new wave of professional training for public servants. Through a partnership with Coursera, thousands of government workers now have free access to online courses aimed at improving productivity, service delivery, and technical competence.
The initiative was launched two weeks ago, supports the administration’s plan to prepare Guyana’s workforce for the demands of a rapidly developing economy. It also marks one of the most significant efforts to equip public servants with global-standard skills without financial barriers.
Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation, Zulfikar Ally, said the programme signals a shift toward a more capable and responsive public service. He highlighted that training opportunities are being widened across agencies so staff can handle tasks more efficiently, adapt to new technologies and better meet the expectations of citizens.
A major part of the plan is the digitalisation of public agencies. Once fully implemented, citizens will be able to complete key transactions online, reducing travel time, long lines, and delays. This transition is expected to benefit people in remote areas the most, giving them equal access to government services.
The broader training and modernisation agenda aligns with the administration’s long-term development goals for creating a public service that is more inclusive, more skilled, and better equipped to support the country’s growth.
