The government is gearing up to launch the Guyana Digital School early next month, marking a major push to modernise learning and close long-standing gaps in access across the education system. The platform will offer round-the-clock learning and is being positioned as a key driver of equity, especially for students outside the coast.

Region Six is already seeing strong uptake, with nearly 1,000 persons enrolled so far and projections to reach 5,000 before the official rollout.

The Digital School is being launched alongside a wider suite of tools from the Ministry of Education aimed at transforming how classrooms operate. Central to this is the upgraded Education Management Information System, which provides real-time data on attendance, performance, and school operations. Forty percent of schools are already using it, and full implementation is targeted for mid-2025.

New data analytics will help pinpoint weaknesses among students and teachers, with the goal of improving CSEC and NGSA performance. A dedicated team will also tackle long-standing issues with student transfers.

Teachers are set to benefit from a new online service that simplifies leave applications, retirement processing, and other administrative tasks, freeing up more time for teaching. In addition, the government will introduce a national anti-bullying app to strengthen reporting, track trends, and support faster intervention in schools.

Region Six is also preparing for expanded tertiary opportunities, with engineering, pre-medicine and other programmes to be offered locally to ease travel and financial strain on students. Seven new special needs education spaces will be added as well, supported by digital access and enhanced teacher training, including a cohort of 14 teachers who recently completed advanced studies.

These initiatives, digital, administrative, and academic, form part of a broader push to build a modern, inclusive education system aligned with the country’s development priorities. The Guyana Digital School and the anti-bullying app are set for formal launch next month.
