Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) has renewed its Operation and Maintenance (O&M) contracts with Power Producers and Distributors Inc. (PPDI) and APAN Energy Services Inc. for the continued operation and maintenance of key power generation facilities supplying electricity to the national grid.

Under the renewed O&M contracts, APAN Energy Services Inc. will continue to operate and maintain the 28.9-megawatt Power Plant at Columbia, while PPDI will continue to operate and maintain the Kingston, Garden of Eden and Vreed-en-Hoop Power Plants, which have a combined generation capacity of 106 Megawatts.

These contracts facilitate the continued operation and maintenance of these critical generation facilities, which collectively play an important role in meeting electricity demand and supporting a reliable supply of electricity to customers.

The contracts were signed by Mr. Kesh Nandlall, Head of GPL’s Executive Management Committee; Mr. Ronald Cheruiyot, Plant Manager, APAN Energy Services Inc.; and Dr. Brian Sukhai, Chief Executive Officer of PPDI.

Also present at the signing was Divisional Director Mr. Gary Hall, along with other key representatives and stakeholders from the respective companies.

The renewal of these O&M contracts forms part of GPL’s ongoing efforts to ensure the efficient operation and maintenance of its generation assets and strengthen the reliability and stability of electricity supply across the Demerara-Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS).

GPL remains committed to working with its partners to maintain adequate generation capacity while advancing initiatives aimed at strengthening and modernising Guyana’s electricity sector.
