The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has issued an urgent advisory to all Guyanese, warning of strict enforcement measures and potential legal consequences for individuals attempting to enter or remain in the United States unlawfully.
The advisory followed an official diplomatic note from the Government of the United States.
The advisory, released on Tuesday, highlights the United States’ renewed commitment to prosecuting offences related to illegal entry and presence, as well as other criminal activities involving foreign nationals.
According to the Ministry, this move follows the reinstatement and expansion of several immigration enforcement policies under the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
While the U.S. maintains its openness to legitimate and legal travelers, the Secretary of State has emphasised the government’s prioritisation of immigration law enforcement. This includes arrest, prosecution, imprisonment, and heavy fines for individuals without proper documentation or who violate the terms of their stay.
The Ministry has urged Guyanese citizens currently residing in the U.S. illegally to depart immediately and is advising all nationals to seek only legal and authorised pathways for migration, employment, education, and travel.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation strongly urges all Guyanese nationals to comply fully with the immigration laws and regulations of the United States of America,” the release stated.
