“He is not fit & proper to lead this country” – Azruddin’s uncle urges citizens to ‘pay him no mind’
Mohamed Yusuf, brother of Nazar ‘Shell’ Mohamed and uncle to presidential candidate Azruddin Mohamed, has publicly questioned his nephew’s leadership capabilities, urging Guyanese not to give him serious consideration in the upcoming General and Regional Elections.
In a video recording, Yusuf voiced his full endorsement of President Dr. Irfaan Ali and the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), praising the incumbent leader for his vision and accomplishments over the past five years.
“I proudly endorse President Irfaan Ali for re-election. My fellow Guyanese, brothers and sisters, do not gamble with your future and the future of your children and your country,” Yusuf said. “Vote proudly for President Irfaan Ali and the PPPC on the 1st of September 2025. He is capable. He is a brilliant leader.”
Contrasting this support, Yusuf criticised his nephew Azruddin, describing him as inexperienced and ill-prepared for political leadership.
“My nephew does not understand politics or geopolitics. He is a political novice. He is not that educated. If he had those qualities, I would have been the first to endorse him. But he doesn’t have leadership qualities. So that is why I dismiss him,” Yusuf stated.
He also expressed disappointment over Azruddin’s use of the family’s charitable work, which Yusuf says has been ongoing quietly for decades by his brother, Nazar.
“My brother did a lot of charitable work for over 30 years, helping many people without publicity. But his son hijacked that charity and turned it into a political circus for personal gain,” Yusuf explained.
Yusuf further accused Azruddin and his sister, Hana Mohamed, of capitalising on their social media presence to create a political party, suggesting their ambitions are driven more by ego than genuine concern for the people.
“They fantasise they are from the elite class and capable of running this country. But I totally disagree. They lack the ability and the heart for the people. It is about themselves,” he said.
Describing them as “narcissists” focused on self-promotion rather than national interest, Yusuf concluded:
“Azruddin Mohamed is not fit and proper to lead this country, as Mr. Granger said. For that reason, I am ordering the people not to pay him much mind.”
Azruddin, who, along with his father, is sanctioned by the United States and is unable to hold a bank account in Guyana, had launched his party, We Invest in Nationhood (WIN).
Only yesterday, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) rejected the use of a jaguar symbol by the party. Hours later, Azruddin stated that it was a leopard.
A video surfaced online showing Azruddin referring to his party’s symbol as a jaguar, directly contradicting his claim that the image represents a leopard.
