A housewife has been found murdered at her Soesdyke home, while her common-law partner is hospitalised under police guard following the incident.

Bibi Salima Persaud, 50, was discovered dead at her residence on Lot 193 Ivan Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD). Her partner, 38-year-old mechanic Dinesh Ram, known as ‘Paul,’ is the main suspect and is under police guard at the Diamond Regional Hospital.

The couple lived together in a one-storey wooden house raised about three feet off the ground.

According to the victim’s son, Sankar Persaud, his mother and Ram frequently engaged in heated arguments. He said these arguments are often triggered by Ram’s suspicions of infidelity related to her frequent cell phone use. Despite the conflicts, they usually reconciled.

On the night of Friday, July 4, at approximately 23:00 hours, Sankar and his brother returned home to find Ram groaning in pain in the yard, lying in a pool of rainwater. Upon calling for his mother with no response, Sankar entered the house and found her motionless with a wound to her throat.

Police officers arriving on the scene noted multiple wounds on the victim’s body, including injuries to her forehead, mouth, wrists, hands, neck, and face. A kitchen knife stained with a reddish substance believed to be blood was found inside.

Ram was taken to the hospital after officers observed that he had attempted suicide.
