A 29-year-old salesman who allegedly fatally stabbed two men during a confrontation on Water Street, Georgetown, has been charged with two counts of manslaughter and released on bail.
Angelo Estwick of Industry, East Coast Demerara (ECD), appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Tuesday, where he was charged in connection with the deaths of two men.
The deceased were 23-year-old Wreford Vincent Trim, called “Junior Browne,” a vendor of Durban Backlands, Georgetown, and 36-year-old Tyrone Captain, a labourer of Eversham, Corentyne, Berbice, and Beepat Squatting Area, Sophia, Georgetown.
Estwick appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly.
The incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on August 7, 2026, following an altercation along Water Street.
Estwick was represented by Attorney-at-Law Kiswana Jefford of the law firm Hughes, Fields and Stoby.
In applying for bail, Jefford told the court that her client had acted in self-defence after being attacked by the two men.
According to the defence, Estwick was pursued by Trim and Captain before the confrontation, during which one of the men allegedly struck him with a bottle.
A police prosecutor confirmed that CCTV footage reviewed by investigators showed the two deceased men following Estwick to the location where the incident unfolded.
The prosecutor further informed the court that the footage appeared to show one of the men assaulting Estwick with a bottle before the fatal confrontation.
The court also heard that a third individual was allegedly involved in the altercation but fled the scene before police arrived.
Magistrate Daly granted Estwick bail totalling $1.5 million, setting bail at $750,000 on each of the two manslaughter charges.
According to police, preliminary investigations revealed that an altercation broke out between Estwick and the two men, during which both Trim and Captain sustained stab wounds.
Trim was later found on Commerce Street, Georgetown, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Captain was taken to the same hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
Police subsequently arrested Estwick and recovered a knife suspected to have been used during the incident. The weapon has been lodged for forensic examination.
Investigators have also obtained CCTV footage as part of the probe into the incident, while the investigation remains ongoing.
