The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is pledging to transform Guyana’s regional economies with the establishment of innovation hubs and technical support centres in every region, according to the party’s General Secretary and Vice President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo.
Dr. Jagdeo, speaking after a series of meetings with stakeholders in Linden and Region 10, outlined the PPP’s strategy to empower communities by creating localised spaces for innovation, skills training, and business development.
“In the next term in office, we are committed to ensuring that every region has its own innovation hub and diversification support technical centre,” Dr. Jagdeo announced. “These centres will be the backbone of our efforts to drive economic diversification, job creation, and entrepreneurship across Guyana.”
He explained that each innovation hub will serve as a launchpad for new ideas, support for start-ups, and technology-driven projects tailored to the needs of each region.
The technical support centres will provide hands-on guidance to small businesses, farmers, and youth entrepreneurs, ensuring access to training, processing, and technical skills needed to succeed in today’s economy.
According to Jagdeo, these facilities are part of a broader push to modernise Guyana’s workforce and create opportunities beyond traditional sectors.
“We recognise that progress is about more than infrastructure,” he said. “It’s about building resilient communities where people have access to knowledge, tools, and support to innovate and thrive, whether in agriculture, agro-processing, technology, or new industries.”
Dr. Jagdeo stressed that this approach is designed to ensure inclusive growth, reaching every demographic and every corner of the country.
“Our vision is clear: every Guyanese, regardless of where they live, should have the opportunity to participate in the country’s transformation. With these innovation hubs and technical centres, we are taking practical steps to make that a reality,” he stated.
The Vice President said the initiative is already receiving positive feedback, particularly from young professionals eager to access skills development and business support closer to home.
