Georgetown / New Delhi – Delhi’s Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IP University) is setting up a campus in Guyana, marking a first for a state-run Delhi university to establish an international branch. The decision was made with backing from both the Delhi and Guyanese governments.

The proposed campus has already received in-principle approval from the Delhi government. On the Guyana side, regulatory clearance came via the National Accreditation Council, adding legitimacy to the undertaking.

Under the plans, the Guyana Online Academy of Learning—operating under the country’s Ministry of Education—approved the campus last December.

Part of the agreement includes Guyana providing a building to host the new campus initially, as well as assisting with meeting regulatory conditions. The educational mandate will include “new-age academic programmes” focusing on computer science and applications, artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, biotechnology, and management.

Officials in Delhi are currently drafting the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in collaboration with Guyana’s education department. Key unresolved details include cost structure, funding sources, student admission numbers, levels of programmes to be offered, and deployment of faculty. The goal is for classes to begin in the “next session,” once all regulatory and administrative arrangements are finalized.
