“It’s like a dream for everybody; everyone is in shock”—wife of Corentyne Motorcyclist who died in accident
Relatives of 23-year-old Eric Kissoon, a construction worker and fisherman of Lot 200, Number 72 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, are mourning his sudden death following a motorcycle accident on Sunday.
Reports indicate that around 3:55 p.m., Kissoon was riding motorcycle CN 7562 along the Number 68 Public Road at a high speed with two pillion riders —Soohil Thakuradi, 13, and Goomraj Veerasammy, 28. Kissoon, who was unlicensed, and the pillion riders were not wearing helmets.
While negotiating a bend, he reportedly lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a bridge rail, leaving them seriously injured.
They were rushed to the Number 75 Regional Hospital, where Kissoon was pronounced dead. The two others remain hospitalised in serious condition.
Kissoon’s wife, Rehana Singh, said he had left home around 7 a.m. on the day of the accident.
She told reporters that when she last spoke to him, she suspected he had been drinking. Singh said she was devastated to learn he had already been taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to injuries to his neck and other parts of his body.
Fighting back tears, Singh described the tragedy as surreal, saying, “It’s like a dream for everybody; everyone is in shock.”
Family members remembered Eric as a loving and jovial young man whose sudden passing has left the community deeply shaken.
