Jury Empaneled for Berbice Child Rape Trial
A 12-member jury was empaneled on Monday at the Berbice High Court for the trial of 29-year-old Sanjay Peters, who is accused of raping a five-year-old boy.
Peters, of Lot 127 Williamsburg, Corentyne, appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon, where he entered a not-guilty plea to the charge.
The indictment alleges that Peters engaged in sexual penetration with the child on two occasions—July 1, 2018, and August 5, 2018—in Berbice.
With the jury selected, the matter is set to continue on December 4, when two police officers and four civilian witnesses are expected to testify. The trial is anticipated to conclude within a short period.
The State is being represented by prosecutor Cicela Corbin, while Attorney-at-Law Kevin Morgan is representing the accused.
