Linden man pleads guilty to killing sister & niece in 2023 house fire
A Linden man, Uhalisi Moore, known as “Akali” or “Ukali,” has pleaded guilty to the capital offence of murder before Acting Chief Justice Navindra Singh at the High Court in Demerara.
His sentencing is scheduled for November 19, 2025.
Moore was indicted for the August 14, 2023 murders of Cheryl Moore and Eukeila Adams at Silvertown, Wismar, Linden. The case is being prosecuted by State Counsel Christopher Belfield, Simran Gajraj, and Geneva Wills.
On the night of the fire, Moore, who lived at Lot 112 Silvertown Second Street with several relatives, reportedly doused furniture with kerosene and set the house alight.
Family members escaped by jumping from the verandah, but Cheryl and Eukeila were trapped inside.
Firefighters arrived around midnight, but the wooden house was already engulfed in flames. Cheryl’s body was recovered around 1:00 a.m., and Eukeila’s several hours later.
During a video-recorded confession at the Wismar Police Station, Moore said he had been hungry for two days and felt ignored by relatives.
He told investigators that “something started rising up in his head,” instructing him to act.
Post-mortem examinations by Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh revealed that both victims died from burns.
The presence of soot in their airways indicated that they were alive when the fire began, confirming that the blaze had been maliciously set.
