A Georgetown businessman escaped prosecution on Wednesday after his wife accepted $2 million in compensation over a charge that he breached a protection order against her.

Vincent Howard was charged last month for violating the court order made in favour of his wife, Lovern Howard. But when the case was called before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, his attorney, Everton Singh-Lammy, told the court that the parties had reached a settlement.

Lovern confirmed in court that she had already received the $2 million from her husband and no longer wished to proceed.

As a result, Magistrate Azore dismissed the charge.
