More than a decade after a violent altercation left a man seriously injured, Brian Murray, also known as Bryan Murray, has pleaded guilty to wounding with intent.
His sentencing is scheduled for July 1, 2025, before Justice Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the High Court in Demerara.
The charge stems from a July 21, 2010, incident in which Murray wounded Parshuram Samsundar during an encounter in the county of Demerara.
Initially indicted on two counts—attempted murder and, in the alternative, wounding with intent—Murray pleaded guilty to the latter offence.
The charge of wounding with intent, contrary to Section 57(a) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, alleged that Murray unlawfully and maliciously wounded Samsundar with the intention of causing grievous bodily harm, or of maiming, disfiguring, or disabling him.
Defence attorney Sasha Roberts is representing Murray, while the State is being represented by prosecutors Praneta Seeraj and Mtumika Lumumba.
Following the plea, the court deferred sentencing to allow for the preparation of a probation report and victim impact statement.
Justice Isaacs-Marcus is expected to hand down the sentence on Tuesday.
