Randy Cozier has been sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after 18 years following his conviction for the 2019 murder of his sister, Cynthia Cozier.
The sentence was handed down by Justice Simone Morris at the Demerara High Court after a jury found him guilty of the charge.
In addition to the life sentence, the court ordered Cozier to undergo several rehabilitation programmes, including drug treatment, during his incarceration.
The state’s case was presented by prosecutors, attorneys Darin Chan and Muntaz Ali, while Cozier was represented by attorneys Meshonn Persaud and Ronald Bostwick.
The charge against Cozier stated that on July 3, 2019, he murdered his 26-year-old sister during a violent altercation at her home in Waramuri Village, Region One.
According to the case details, Cozier had visited Cynthia’s home, where several other siblings were present.
At one point, Cynthia reprimanded him for throwing objects at children in the household.
Enraged by the confrontation, Cozier armed himself with two cutlasses and attacked her, delivering fatal wounds to her neck and torso.
Cynthia was rushed to the Moruca Hospital but later died from her injuries.
A post-mortem examination concluded that she died as a result of haemorrhage and shock due to two incised wounds.
