Man who allegedly shot taxi driver is identified as Cobie Benjimen of Buxton
The man who allegedly shot Shaheed Amanat, also called “Ryan”, a 32-year-old Taxi driver on Monday night, has been identified as Cobie Benjimen, of Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

This is according to a source who informed Sheriff News Network.
Eyewitnesses said Benjimen, along with his accomplice, was outside a bar, at Mon Repos, where the victim and his friend were also present.

It is alleged that the two suspects started an argument with the victim after seeing two gold chains around the victim’s neck. The argument was captured on CCTV.
The victim, who resides in Annandale, ECD, and his friend then boarded his motorcar and proceeded to Beterverwagting (BV), ECD, when Benjimen and his accomplice began to follow them. The duo was also caught on CCTV trailing the victim from Mon Repos.
While on their way to BV, the friend of Amanat observed that they were being followed by the duo, and he lowered his seat and lay back in the car as the 32-year-old continued to drive.
It was then that Benjimen allegedly shot Amanat in the head causing him to become unconscious and causing the vehicle to collide with a metal rail.
Benjimen and his accomplice then robbed the victim of the above-mentioned gold chains and an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing.
The victim was rushed to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where he underwent surgeries and remains in a critical condition.
Police are investigating the matter.
