Police on Thursday morning arrested a 48-year-old fisherman after discovering over 25 pounds of narcotics during a routine stop and search of a Georgetown-to-Lethem minibus.

At about 09:30 hrs, officers intercepted minibus #BVV 887 and conducted a search of the driver and three passengers. While nothing illegal was found on the driver and two Brazilian nationals, a search of passenger Clive Thornhill revealed a significant quantity of drugs and cash.

Thornhill, a Lethem resident, was found carrying a black side bag containing GY$703,180, 1,798 Brazilian Reais, 3,260 Cuban dollars, and US$1,137. Further inspection of a white cardboard box and a ten-gallon bucket he identified as his property uncovered twelve transparent parcels of suspected cannabis and two small bags containing 40 suspected ecstasy pills.

Police then searched a red five-gallon bucket from the bus’s roof rack, also belonging to Thornhill, and discovered five additional parcels of cannabis. The total weight of the seized narcotics amounted to 25.6 pounds.

When cautioned about possession of narcotics for trafficking, Thornhill reportedly pleaded, “Sir, give yuh boy a chance, is a lil hustle… tek the money.”

Thornhill was arrested and taken to the Lethem Police Station along with the narcotics, which were weighed in his presence. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
