During his recent visit to Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), Minister of Health, Honourable Dr Frank Anthony, participated in a series of activities highlighting the Government’s continued investment in strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality health services across the region.
Minister Anthony attended the ceremonial ribbon-cutting for the Campbellton Health Centre, a facility valued at approximately $15 million. The newly established health centre is equipped with the necessary amenities to provide quality primary healthcare services to residents of Campbellton and surrounding communities.
The facility forms part of the Ministry of Health’s ongoing efforts to improve access to essential healthcare services, particularly for residents of hinterland and remote communities.
Following the ceremony, Minister Anthony visited the Mahdia Hospital, where he inspected several key investments aimed at enhancing the hospital’s diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
Among these was the hospital’s Oxygen Generator Room, valued at approximately $13.985 million, which will strengthen the facility’s capacity to provide a reliable supply of medical oxygen for patients requiring respiratory and emergency care.
The Health Minister also visited the hospital’s Digital X-ray Unit, valued at approximately $160 million. The introduction of digital X-ray services represents a significant improvement in the hospital’s diagnostic capacity, allowing healthcare professionals to better assess and manage patients within the region.
Minister Anthony subsequently conducted a walkthrough of the Mahdia Hospital, where he observed the services being offered and interacted with healthcare personnel.
As part of the visit, the Minister also commissioned the Mahdia Rehabilitation Department, valued at approximately $14 million. The department will expand access to rehabilitation services for persons recovering from injuries, illnesses and other conditions requiring rehabilitative care, reducing the need for patients to travel outside of the region to access these essential services.
These investments underscore the Government of Guyana’s commitment to modernising healthcare delivery across the country and ensuring that residents, regardless of their geographic location, have greater access to quality, reliable and comprehensive health services.
