The Health and Family Life Education (HFLE) Unit of the Ministry of Education, through its School Support Services Division, has launched the Peer Education Program for In-School Youths during the month of September 2025. The program is being implemented at Cummings Lodge Secondary, Richard Ishmael Secondary, and La Aventure Secondary Schools, with each school hosting a two-day interactive workshop.

The initiative aims to promote healthy, active lifestyle practices and foster the development of life skills among adolescents. By engaging trained in-school youths, the program encourages students to become advocates for mental health awareness, adopt positive lifestyle choices, and build resilience in facing everyday challenges.

Participants are introduced to a series of engaging modules, including Being a Peer Helper, Violence and Mental Health, Coping with Change and Loss, Understanding Mental Health and Wellness, and Key Health and Social Issues such as Substance Abuse, Depression, and Suicide. Sessions are designed to be practical and reflective, equipping students with essential communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

One of the major outcomes of the Peer Education Program is the formation of School Health Clubs, which will serve as student-led spaces for promoting well-being, fostering peer support, and sustaining health education initiatives within the school community.

Through this program, the Ministry of Education continues to demonstrate its commitment to enhancing students’ mental health, social awareness, and overall well-being, ensuring that every child is equipped not only academically, but emotionally and socially, for a balanced and productive life.
