Mon Repos Man Charged with Armed Robbery of Woman’s Cell Phone
A 30-year-old painter from Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, was on Friday (September 26, 2025) charged with Robbery Under Arms after allegedly snatching a woman’s cell phone.
The accused, Leon Persaud, was arrested on September 19 by ranks from the Beterverwagting Police Station. He is accused of robbing Nadira Khemraj, known as “Nado,” a 39-year-old resident of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, of a Samsung S22 Ultra.
Persaud appeared before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court #1, where the charge, filed under Section 222(c) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01, was read to him. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison.
The case has been adjourned to October 29, 2025, for report.
