The Guyana Police Force’s Narcotics Branch yesterday (September 9, 2025) carried out a major eradication exercise along the Wiruni Creek, Upper Berbice River, resulting in the destruction of cannabis valued at more than $237 million.

Between 09:30 hrs and 13:00 hrs, ranks discovered a five-acre plot containing approximately 2,000 cannabis plants, measuring between two and five feet in height. A nearby makeshift camp—measuring about 30×20 feet and outfitted with living and kitchen quarters—was also found, along with a drying area.

Inside the camp and drying area, police uncovered around 580 lbs of dried cannabis. Both the camp and the cannabis—plants and dried material—were destroyed by fire.

Cannabis Plants: $677,600

Dried Cannabis: $236,775,024

Total: $237,452,624
