A spanking new building, which will house the office of the Hogstye/Lancaster Neighborhood Democratic Council (NDC), was commissioned at Alness Village, Corentyne, Berbice on Sunday.

At a simple ceremony, Region Six Regional Chairman David Armogan stated that for many years, the previous building had been in a deplorable condition, describing it as “the worst in the region.”

Armogan noted that with the new building, people will feel safe and comfortable to transact business at the office.

In her remarks, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Sonia Parag stated that the building has a modern design, emphasising that she is concerned about the service delivery.

“You can have the nicest building, but if you don’t have the service, it makes no sense. This building is to house the people who will give the service to the community, as they have been elected to serve and represent the community. Irrespective of what your political persuasion may be, irrespective of what your religious persuasion may be, irrespective of what your ethnicity is, service should be had to all, because you are all citizens of this country, irrespective of where you come from,” she disclosed.

Region Six Regional Chairman Zamal Hussain, Regional Executive Officer Narindra Persaud, and the NDC Chairperson Sharon Smith graced the event.
