Onix Duncan has officially resigned from his roles within the Alliance For Change (AFC), effective immediately.
In a letter dated June 28, 2025, addressed to AFC General Secretary Raphael Trotman and copied to Youth For Change President LeShanté Marks, Duncan outlined his reasons for stepping down.
Duncan, who held several key positions including Chairman of the East Coast Demerara Regional Management Committee, Vice President of Youth For Change, and Member of the AFC, expressed deep dissatisfaction with the party’s current direction and leadership.
The resignation letter points to a period of “deep reflection and growing discontent” due to the party leadership’s failure to foster “genuine inclusion and internal engagement.”
Duncan specifically mentioned the creation of a faction known as “Better Must Come,” which he views as a missed opportunity for unity and reform within the AFC.
Further grievances include the party’s “continued tolerance of disrespectful and homophobic behaviour” and a leadership style that fosters “indecision and disorder,” resulting in eroded credibility and effectiveness. Duncan criticised the leadership’s inability to establish a Disciplinary Action Committee despite repeated calls.
“I remain committed to a political culture rooted in accountability, discipline, and justice — values the AFC once championed but now struggles to embody,” Duncan stated.
Only recently, three of the AFC’s members joined the APNU. These individuals are Juretha Fernandes, Sherod Duncan and Deonarine Ramsaroop.
