Over 12,000 pre-qualified for small government contracts – Jagdeo

More than 12,000 people have now been pre-qualified for small government contracts across Guyana, a significant increase from just 100 when the government assumed office in 2020, according to Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo.

Speaking at the opening of the Vice President’s Public Day event in the mining town, Jagdeo said the government’s small contractors programme has expanded considerably, creating increased opportunities for residents to secure government work.

He disclosed that during 2024 and 2025, approximately 700 small contractors were awarded government contracts valued between $7 billion and $10 billion annually.

Addressing housing, the Vice President said the government is working to eliminate the housing backlog in Region Ten by 2027 as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to house lots and expand housing opportunities for residents
