
The Guyana Football Federation Elite League Season VII continued at the National Training Center over the weekend, with thrilling football action as Slingers FC, Western Tigers, Guyana Defence Force FC, and Fruta Conquerors FC attained victories.
On Sunday, the action featured the Western Tigers trying to keep their winning ways, playing Mainstay Goldstar FC in an attempt to win their first game. The East Ruimveldt team dominated the first quarter, scoring five goals by the end of the half in the 4’, 9’, 14’, 23’, and 32’.
As the Western Tigers continued to control the field, they scored goals in quick succession from Samuel Garnett in the 49’, 75’, and 79’, Mark Phillips in the 63’ and 86’, and Keron Powell in the 66’ and 89’ to win 13-1. Tian Mendonca scored Mainstay Goldstar’s only goal of the tournament in the 80th minute.
Closing off the night’s proceedings, Slingers, undefeated in the tournament, came up against Ann’s Grove FC. The first half saw the Ann’s Grove unit show glimpses of class but fail to restrict the offensive attack of Slingers, as they went down 2-0 with the ball finding its way to the back of the net off the feet of Kemar Beckford in the 3rd and 16th minutes.
With their ability to make penetrative passes, Slingers FC managed to find the back of the net to record a 7-0 win over Ann’s Grove. Beckford found the net again in the 58’ and 68’, followed by Curtez Kellman in the 49’, Kelsey Benjamin in the 51’, and Marcus Tudor sealing the win by scoring in the 90’s.
On Sunday, both teams looked to bounce back after losses as Fruta Conquerors shared the field with Den Amstel FC, resulting in an intense first half with both teams looking promising as their keepers kept the game level at the end of the first half.
With the game going into the second half, it looked to end in a draw between both sides, but a sensational shot from Jermaine Padmore in the 76th minute put Fruta Conquerors ahead as they bagged three points with a 1-0 score.
Guyana Defence Force (GDF) FC and Santos FC culminated the weekend’s action as the first half saw intense play from both sides. Within 3 minutes of the game, GDF’s Chris Macy found the back of the net, but with the first half looking to end in favour of GDF, Carl Griffith equalised the game, scoring in the 45+1’.
Determination led the way for the soldiers in the second half as they managed to break down the Santos defensive unit, with Captain Colin Nelson netting in the 74th, Ian Dooker in the 83rd, and Jeffrey Perreira in the 85th to seal a 4-1 win.
Slingerz Football Club pulled off a miraculous 7-0 victory over Ann’s Grove FC on Saturday at the National Training Centre.
In the first game of the night, Western Tigers ripped through Mainstay Goldstar FC as they attained a dominating 13-1 victory.
